I was never a big fan of spinach. But I got into a health-kick and wanted to feed my body with good stuff. Spinach was everywhere. So I thought that I should give it a try and figured the taste will definitely get masked with the other stronger flavoured ingredients. I was totally right! This smoothie is so great. It has tasty, nutritious ingredients. I don’t know if I can call it a green smoothie despite the colour. You’ll see why in the ingredient list below. As time went by, I started to add more spinach only because I really could not taste it at all. Then I realised I like raw spinach when I had it served as a side. It’s the cooked one that I really do not fancy at all. I’d definitely suggest trying all forms of a food before rejecting it – especially if it’s a good one for you.
- 4 frozen strawberries
- 1.5 cups of baby spinach
- 1 banana
- 1 kiwi
- 1 medjool date
- 1/2 cup of coconut water
- 1 teaspoon of chia seeds
You will see a pattern with most of my recipes. They are all incredibly easy.
- Cut/peel the necessary.
- Add them all into your blender and blend it up.
It is a big serving for one. If you want a thicker body, freeze up your banana too. This is especially great if you start your mornings very early and want to last until your lunchtime or your snack break. Just a note about the coconut water is that you should check the ingredients and not just rely on their ‘Natural 100%’ tag lines if that’s something you look for. They usually add all kinds of stuff to make it last. I knew it tasted different but I went with it thinking that’s what happens when it get boxed. Silly me. I love Chi Coconut Water because it is what it is. When I’m back home in Singapore, my mother always get me proper coconuts and I drink it fresh and eat the pulp fresh. Chi is definitely that. Research is key in all aspects of life.
Oh another thing, remember to check your teeth after this yummy beverage. Spinach bits can be stuck.
Have a go at it and let me know what you think!
